Al-Wasal – Madiha Al-Sulaimani | Athir – Mohammed Al-Araim The Child Journalism Charter Forum, organized by the Omani Journalists Association, discussed in its first session today several objectives for adopting a Child Journalism Code of Ethics. During the session attended by “Athir,” lawyer Dr. Ahmed Al-Jahouri emphasized the importance of incorporating the Child Journalism Charter into Omani law and recalled one of his cases involving the exploitation of children through programs and games, specifically a PlayStation game. Al-Jahouri explained that the child was playing the game online when someone lured him by promising to help him reach advanced levels and improve his skills. The exploiter continued this pattern multiple times until the child became deeply immersed in and fond of the game, eventually reaching a stage where the exploiter asked the child to undress while being watched, leading to subsequent abuse. Al-Jahouri highlighted that the game had initially been a reward from the family for the child’s academic excellence, stressing that while technology advances, children must be protected from its harmful potentials.
