The Oman Commercial Arbitration Center yesterday discussed the challenges and available safeguards for commercial arbitration in the Sultanate of Oman, as well as the impact of the Singapore Mediation Convention. The discussions took place during a conference organized by the Center at the Sheraton Hotel in Muscat, titled “Arbitration and Mediation in Oman: Challenges and Opportunities.” The event aimed to promote the culture of arbitration and mediation in Oman, enhance investor confidence in the business environment, build public trust in the Center, enrich local experience, and position Oman as a leading arbitration hub regionally and globally. Attendees included Dr. Ahmed bin Said Al-Jahouri, Chairman of the Center’s Board, Dr. Mousa bin Salem Al-Azri, CEO of the Center, board members, and prominent arbitration practitioners from Oman and abroad. The forum highlighted modern methods in arbitration and mediation, the Center’s achievements, and strategies to address challenges such as limited engagement, ensuring effective dispute resolution through qualified arbitrators, and institutional management of arbitration cases.
