Lawyer and legal expert Ahmed Al-Jahouri called for harsher penalties for cyber blackmail to deter offenders, especially in light of the recent rise in such crimes, and emphasized the need for stricter monitoring to ensure perpetrators are apprehended as quickly as possible. In a statement, Al-Jahouri explained that under Omani law, the penalty for cyber blackmail in the Sultanate of Oman is imprisonment for no less than one month and no more than three years, and a fine of no less than OMR 1,000 and no more than OMR 3,000, or one of these penalties, for anyone who uses information networks or technical means to commit the crime.
