This morning, the Child Press Charter Forum was held, organized by the Omani Journalists Association under the patronage of Her Highness Muna bint Fahd Al Said, Chairperson of Children First Association, with the participation of specialists and professionals concerned with child affairs. The event, which began with a moment of silence for the children martyred in Gaza, highlighted the importance of focusing on children and their proper upbringing. Her Highness emphasized that the charter is crucial for shaping children’s culture and has a significant impact on child-related legislation. Forum Director Zeinab Al-Zadjali explained that the charter was developed over two years, studied from legal and legislative perspectives, and aims to reinforce the identity and proper upbringing of Omani children in the digital age. Dr. Ahmed Al-Jahouri stressed that the charter covers the media’s role in ensuring children’s welfare, raising societal awareness, and safeguarding children from negative exposure, while encouraging responsible journalism that nurtures their talents. The forum included two panel discussions addressing child protection in the context of technology, social media, and evolving societal challenges. Participants underscored the need for age-appropriate media content, cooperative initiatives, and educational programs to equip children with awareness of their rights, protection from abuse, and skills to navigate modern digital environments safely. The forum concluded with calls for coordinated efforts across media, educational institutions, and private sectors to create a safe, constructive, and engaging media environment for children in Oman.
